When I was a young child I remember over-hearing RD say several times, "we are broke." I think he was trying to scare my mom into not spending money, because I never wanted for anything as a child (except a red Jeep Power Wheel). As I got older, I knew we were far from broke, but upon examining this picture I wonder if we were actually broke, because it seems as though that my mother may have taken a feed sack and made it into a jumper for me to wear.
